Altosid® Granules: Application
ALTOSID® XR-G
When should ALTOSID XR-G be applied?
Apply ALTOSID XR-G at any stage of larval mosquito development. Granules may be applied prior to flooding. In areas where flooding occurs, one application of ALTOSID XR-G can prevent adult mosquito emergence from several floodings. The exact length of control depends on the length and frequency of flooding.
Where can ALTOSID XR-G be applied?
ALTOSID XR-G may be applied to temporary and permanent sites that support mosquito larval development. Application sites include:
- snow pools
- salt and tidal marshes
- freshwater swamps and marshes
- woodland pools and meadows
- dredging spoil sites
- drainage areas
- ditches
- water-holding receptacles
- other natural and manmade depressions
The following additional label claims have been approved by the EPA:
- pastures
- rangeland
- waste water
- dairy and poultry lagoons
- crop areas
Applying ALTOSID XR-G to sites with water flow will diminish its effectiveness. Thus, higher application rates or more frequent applications may be required.
At what application rate should ALTOSID XR-G be applied?
When controlling Aedes, Anopheles and Psorophora spp., apply ALTOSID
ALTOSID SBG
When should ALTOSID SBG be applied?
Apply ALTOSID SBG to later instar stages of larval mosquito development. Timing of application is critical to achieve proper control. ALTOSID SBG is designed for single-brood mosquito larvae, so applications should be made within three to five days of expected pupation. Applications made to pupae will not be effective.
Where can ALTOSID SBG be applied?
ALTOSID SBG is so versatile, it can be used in easy-to-access and hard-to-treat areas. Application sites include:
- Salt and Tidal Marshes
- Dredge Spoil Sites
- Ditches
- Woodland Pools and Meadows
- Uncultivated and Nonagricultural areas
- Water Receptacles (Tires, Urns, Flowerpots, Cans)
- Retention Ponds
- Catch Basins
- Ponds and Lakes
- Dairy and Poultry Lagoons
- Pastures
- Practically anywhere else mosquitoes breed
Applying ALTOSID SBG to sites with water flow will diminish its effectiveness. Thus, higher application rates or more frequent applications may be required.
At what application rate should ALTOSID SBG be applied?
When controlling Aedes, Anopheles and Psorophora spp, apply ALTOSID SBG at 5-10 pounds per acre. To control Culex and Culiseta, apply ALTOSID SBG at 10-20 pounds per acre. Within these ranges, use lower rates when water is less than two feet, and vegetation and pollution are minimal. Use higher rates when water is greater than two feet, and vegetation and pollution are heavy. For complete rate information see the ALTOSID SBG Specimen Label.
